Philosophy

The revised curriculum (B.E. 2565 [2022]) is designed in alignment with Thailand’s national policy framework, reflecting the government’s commitment to restructuring the economy toward a “Value-Based Economy,” or an innovation-driven model known as “Thailand 4.0.” As a developing country—particularly in the industrial sector—Thailand has a growing demand for personnel in science and technology, especially in the field of industrial chemistry. In accordance with the policy directions of the National Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO), development strategies have been established to align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Central to this framework is the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy Model, which promotes sustainable development through the application of science, technology, and innovation to enhance national competitiveness. The BCG model focuses on four target industries (S-Curves): agriculture and food; energy and materials; health and medical industries; and tourism and services. The BCG economy is projected to become a principal economic foundation of the country, generating over 4.4 trillion baht (approximately 24% of GDP) within the next five years and creating employment for approximately 16.5 million people.

Importance

The present and future economic systems continue to expand, while the number of qualified personnel in industrial chemistry research remains insufficient to effectively support advanced development in science, technology, research, and innovation. Therefore, this curriculum emphasizes the development of both academic knowledge and professional competencies in industrial chemistry, in parallel with economic, social, and cultural advancement. The curriculum has been designed with consideration for social and cultural transformations influenced by globalization. It aims to promote respect for human dignity and equality, foster public-mindedness among graduates, and enhance their ability to integrate knowledge and skills in industrial chemistry alongside social and cultural development, thereby contributing to improved standards of living across all levels of society.
